Papili Chenil is a teal-blood fantroll based on The Hermit↗ and Justice↗ tarot cards. Here is their Homestuck-style 2nd-person introduction:
"Your name is PAPILI CHENIL. You don’t entirely GET GENDER, but your friends refer to you as THEY or SHE, and that works for you.
"You only received this “PHONE” thing last sweep, and before that, you had never seen anything like it. It sure is BRIGHT, though! Both you and your lusus LOVE LIGHTS. There weren’t many lights to enjoy back in the WASTES, where you grew up, but here closer to THE CITY, there are MANY lights to enjoy. Your hobbies include… holding this LAMP. It helps you look for your LUSUS when she gets lost. Which is often. She may have raised you, but now it’s your RESPONSIBILITY to keep her from getting HUNTED. This is a full-time job. You also spend a lot of time hanging around your FRIEND and his moderately-more-behaved BUG LUSUS. Sometimes you even get to see your MOIRAIL, and she patches up the MOTH HOLES in your CLOAK for you! Profile
Appearance
Papili is a troll with light gray skin and many freckles. Their black hair is shoulder length with dense curls, held back from their face with a teal bandana. Her ears are long and pointed. She has two pointed teeth sticking out from her mouth. Papilli's eyes are wide and round, with teal make-up streaking down her cheeks almost like tears. Their horns are zig-zag shaped, reminiscent of the crook of her staff.
Papili wears a large gray cloak with many teal and green circular patches, one of which has her sign. Under the cloak, she wears a light teal sweater, baggy black pants, and teal shoes. Papili has a long striped teal scarf, which they wrap around the lower half of their face. The rest drags along the floor. They also carry a tall gray staff with a lantern at the end, meant for corralling her lusus.

Abilities
Papili's lusus is very strong, able to fend off the many other dangerous beasts they encounter in the wilderness. It's thanks to her that Papili has been able to survive so long without a hive. Papili themself is perfectly capable of holding their own against other trolls, however, using their staff as a weapon.
Other Info
Papili's lusus is a moth/bird humanoid, nicknamed MothMom. The two currently live in the woods near Falool's hive, though she grew up in the empty wilderness, never given a hive of her own. The specifics of Papili's origins is unknown.

Design Process
"Papili" is derived from Latin "papilio", meaning butterfly or moth. It's also the genus name of swallowtail butterflies specifically. "Chenil" is derived from French "chenille", meaning caterpillar, which most often refers to a type of soft fabric. Papili's sign is meant to be a simplified scale, like the one held on the Rider-Waite Justice card. The inclusion of the Justice card is the whole reason they were made a teal blood. Their lantern, staff, and cloak are a reference to the Rider-Waite Hermit card. The lantern on that card is refered to as the Lamp of Truth, which also fits with the Justice card.
Trivia
- Papili's cards didn't have much for animal associations, so I decided to throw Mothman↗ in there. I think because they have a lantern? The Mothman statue in Point Pleasant, West Virigina is referenced in Papili's godtier wing design.
- In the official Extended Zodiac, Papili would be a Libittarius↗, sign of The Hidden.
