Xiphoid was activated as a prototype, the first of their model.

After the incident, the maintenance wing becomes robot-only.
Relationships
Nautiloid
Xiph and Naut originally started out with something of a doctor/patient relationship, as Naut was sent to Xiph as a maintenance job. Eventually, it becomes clear that Naut can't be "fixed", by which point the two have realized how much they have in common. Xiph arranges for Naut to stay as more of an assistant, which management mostly agrees with because Naut's pressense seems to be improving Xiph's behavior. It's over this time that their relationship becomes more "romantic" in nature, although Xiph is the only one that would describe it that way.
Xiph sees Naut as an essential foil to their wild personality. Xe relies on Naut for assistance with work, and they make a great listener for xer rants.

- The word "xiphoid" directly translates to "sword-shaped". It's most commonly used in description of the "xiphoid process", a small section of cartilage on the end of the sternum.↗
- Xiphoid's design was partially inspired by Slenderman↗. Their pointed ears were directly inspired by Inklings from Splatoon↗.
