Profile
Appearance
Ihop is a human with unkept dark hair, partially pulled back with an orange hairtie. He wears silver half-rimmed glasses, an orange t-shirt, and some basic brown pants and shoes. He also still has his company-provided lab coat, which he wears for extra protection against The Dark. Ihop is usually covered in dark stains, though they do fade when exposed to light.
Personality
Dr. Ihop had mild issues with paranoid before entering The Dark, which then made it much worse. Ihop is particularly distrusting of technology, assuming anything mechanical is under LEDD's control. He is very dedicated to his cause, and has yet to lose hope that there is a way out.
Abilities
Ihop has terrible eyesight, which has only been worsened by his extended stays in The Dark. He keeps a lot of journals, which get left around the lab as helpful exposition. Also he keeps making torches somehow despite being in an office building. Light is good for fending off the worst of The Dark's effects, and natural sources are more reliable due to The Dark's effect on technology. A lighter or even candles would fit the setting better, but torches are staying for now.
History
Dr. Ihop was originally hired without full explination of how LEDDlabs works. Upon learning that he was no longer permitted to leave the facility or make any communications outside, Ihop started trying to find a way out by any means necessary. Ihop's deep distrust of LEDD lead him to breaking multiple TVs and other equipment in an act of rebellion, which got him fired. Rather than find out what the company does with fired employees, Ihop took to hiding within LEDDlab's labyrinthian building, mostly in The Dark.
Relationships
LEDD
Dr. Ihop has distrusted LEDD since day one, he saw that smile and knew LEDD was evil. As friendly as LEDD acts towards him, Dr. Ihop doesn't believe a word he says. Ihop's actions against LEDD are usually kept to subtler methods, though, as he is a coward.
TheDark
The company's repeated warnings not to interact with The Dark only work on employees who actually trust what they're saying. Dr. Ihop does not. Ihop's understanding of how The Dark works is some of the best among the employees, but that's only thanks to first-hand experience. He has no idea how much of what he experiences is The Dark verses him going crazy, but he's actually pretty close. What Ihop doesn't quite get is how sentient The Dark is. Surely the things talking to him are just meaningless hallucinations.
Other Employees
Dr. Ihop is fairly well-known among the LEDDlabs employees, mostly thanks to LEDD's regular reminders not to interact with him and report any sightings of him. Opinions on Ihop's mission to escape vary, but as far as anyone knows, no attempts have been made to join him. It would be difficult to anyways, as Dr. Ihop sees any LEDDlabs employee as a danger who might report him. He's on his own.
Trivia
- His full name of "Jerold Ihop" was decided in the original LEDDlabs D&D campaign. I can't remember what the original joke with the Internation House of Pancakes↗ reference was, but the name stuck.
- In the D&D campaign, Ihop was an intern assigned to stay in The Dark and keep subjects out. He was reused as a medic in the Minecraft build as an excuse to leave exposition and hints to guide subjects to the exit.
- In the Minecraft build, Ihop is suggested to have either died or escaped. Hidden lines from The Dark suggest that it misses him.
